"Do you ever just get down on your knees and thank God that you know me, and have access to my dementia?!" --George Costanza

Even worse!

At dinner last night with Ms. Poon, my inadvertent bashing of Special Olympians was brought up. At the time, I knew this reminded me of something. Ms. Poon refreshed my memory.

In college, a bunch of people were sitting around, watching TV, including original SMP? reader and frequent commenter "Dan." Onto the screen comes a TV commercial that has a rear view shot of a girl, and the sound is of her slowly and quite laboriously working her way through a sentence in her book.

Dan goes off. To paraphrase, he said something like, "Hey, kid, learn to read! You're going so slow you might as well be reading backward!" (His mock outrage was humorous to a certain degree - after all, the girl was reading at a preposterously slow pace.)

"The end," the girl announces.

Then we see a front shot of the young girl. She has Down Syndrome. The voiceover announces, "Jennifer just finished her first book. Thanks to your donations to the Ronald McDonald House."

Way to go, Dan, way to go.

(See? Much worse than what I did. Plus, Dan's on vacation in the Bahamas and is otherwise no longer living within 1,000 miles of me so he can't just drive over and kick my ass.

Besides, anyone going to the Bahamas while I'm stuck at a desk for 12-15 hours a day studying deserves to have their dirty laundry aired out before America four, five, maybe 7 people.)
